Scenic Skiing in Switzerland and Scandinavia
Skiers on Lumi’s Seefeld & Engadin trip check out the course before the Worldloppet event
As we turn our clocks forward for daylight savings time, we are enjoying more time spent skiing in the sunshine long into the evening. It has been a fantastic season for Lumi skiers and we're still gliding along in Switzerland and Norway. Read on for insights into Lumi’s trip to the Engadin Worldloppet Ski Marathon in St Moritz and current conditions in Sjusjøen on the Norway Sight-Skiing trip and on the Holmenkollen trail above Oslo on the Birken trip.
Skiing in the Engadin valley
Two New Worldloppet Masters at the Engadin
The sunshine chased Lumi’s Seefeld & Engadin group from Austria to Switzerland, making for picture-perfect days exploring Samedan and St. Moritz. The group scouted out the Engadin Worldloppet course, including finding the best lines through the infamous “Mattress Downhill” – a choose-your-own-route slalom through mattress covered trees. A walk-around alternative on a sawdust-covered pedestrian path was also available for skiers not as comfortable on downhills.
Conditions on race day were ideal, with calm weather and plenty of sunshine keeping spirits high. The Engadin is one of the most approachable Worldloppet races on the circuit and even those who hadn’t skied 42km before soon found themselves at the finish line with arms held high. A bonus is that the “freestyle” race offers opportunities for both skate skiers and classic skiers, where several classic tracks parallel the skate trails. Two Lumi skiers reached Worldloppet Master status, having completed 10 different races over many seasons. Congratulations on your achievements, John and Gunnar!

Endless Trails in Norway
Trails stretch in all directions in and around Lillehammer
Skiers on Lumi’s Norway trips have been exploring the seemingly endless trails in Norway to their heart’s content. From Holmenkollen to Sjusjøen, snow has been plentiful. Heavy fog some mornings has added a mystical, troll trail feel in the Nordmarka. In Sjusjøen, sunny blue sky days, sandwiched between hearty meals have skiers feeling like they’re skiing through their personal Valhalla. Whether preparing for the Birken or sight-skiing at a more relaxing pace, skiers have been treated to excellent trail conditions, comfortable accommodations and fine dining in both Oslo and Lillehammer.
Norway is a skier's paradise
Lumi’s Norway Sight-Skiing trip wrapped up this week after spending several days exploring the snowy landscapes of Norway’s heartland. Norway’s reliable spring snow made for great skiing on the plateau and through snowy forests.
Lumi’s Norway Birken trip guests arrived this week to prepare for the legendary Birkebeinerrennet this weekend. While in Oslo, they even crossed paths with World Cup skiers preparing for this weekend’s legendary Holmenkollen 50km event. While this winter’s Holmenkollen World Cup overlaps with the Birken weekend, the 2027 Holmenkollen falls one weekend before the Birken, so for 2027, we are excited to offer the Holmenkollen World Cup Pre-Trip that dovetails into the 2027 Norway Birken Trip. We look forward to sharing more next week as our season quickly draws to a close.
Stay tuned for more from this year’s Birken!
The Nordic Races Continue
Finally, we turn our attention to the largest Nordic event of the year: the Vasaloppet. Held annually in Sweden in early March, the full 90km race is a dream for skiers from around the world. Lumi is offering a dedicated trip to the Vasaloppet in 2027, complete with guaranteed entries for Lumi skiers wishing to take part in this legendary event. Sweden also is hosting the 2027 FIS World Championships in Falun at the same time, a rare alignment that promises to make Sweden the go-to spot for skiing excitement next winter. Lumi has two trips planned to the World Championships, both of which also include opportunities to participate in the Vasaloppet’s Winter Week events.
