Australia’s Kangaroo Hoppet
Experience skiing in August!
Head south to Australia for a week of on-snow skiing in August with the opportunity to participate in the Kangaroo Hoppet Worldloppet event.
The trails in Falls Creek meander through snow gum trees and around the Rocky Valley reservoir on the Bogong High Plains, which are also ideal for crust cruising in late-August. Similar to Silver Star in British Colombia, the entire Falls Creek resort offers ski-in, ski-out accommodations, allowing you to ski right from your door — an ideal location from which to ski as much, or as little as you like, while you acclimate to the time-zone and skiing on snow. We also head into the village of Mt Beauty for a celebratory dinner after the Hoppet and the opportunity to see kangaroos and little joeys as they come out to eat around sunset.
Between ski weeks, take a rest day in Melbourne, where you can explore the Australian Sports Museum, which is also the site of the annual Australian Open tennis tournament, or perhaps you’d rather spend the day relaxing on the beach in St Kilda. It’s up to you — it’s your vacation.
