Cultural Activities
Every Lumi trip has opportunities to experience a place beyond its trails and races. Taking the time to engage with and learn about the places we visit helps guests get a fuller understanding for the deep history and culture each community has. Just as each country or region has its own unique cuisine and Worldloppet events, each has activities that make a particular place special. We strive for authenticity and work with local experts to share these cultural activities with you, just as they’ve been passed down for generations.
Below you’ll find some of our favorite cultural activities we take part in and which trips you’ll find them on. By no means is this an exhaustive list. Every trip features many small moments both on and off the trail that help to round out your vacation and make memories with your group.
Rodeling
Alpine sledding, or rodeling as it’s known across Europe, is a favorite winter pastime for many in the communities where Lumi visits. This all-ages sport utilizes flexible wooden sleds on dedicated runs, many of which are lift-served so you can focus your energies on enjoying the ride. Cooking Lessons
Eating delicious food abroad is one thing. Learning how to make it yourself is another! Lumi guests are often treated to classes with local chefs to learn the art of making regional favorites, including apple strudel, cheese and more. Ski Jump Tours
Many of the Nordic destinations Lumi visits are home not only to world-class cross country ski trails, but massive ski jumping facilities as well. On Lumi’s Finlandia & Estonia, Norway Birken and Norway Sight-Skiing trips, guests are treated to a visit to the top of these iconic structures for an unparalleled view of the landscape below.
Museums
Guests on several Lumi trips are treated to visits to local museums, including Olympic Museums chronicling the history of athletes that participated in past Winter Games. Biathlon

Cheese Tastings & Tours
Local cheeses are everywhere you look in Europe, with each region having its favorite variety. Not only will you be able to sample a wide number of cheeses at your hotel and on the trail, you may even get the chance to discover how these delicious foods are made. Lumi’s France Transju’ trip tours a historic fort now used for aging Comté cheese, while our Seefeld & Seiser Alm trips feature cheese tastings at a trailside hut.
Yodeling
Spend an evening practicing a time-honored folk tradition in the Austrian Alps: Yodeling. Learn the tricks of the trade from a 2-time Yodeling World Champion as she shares what makes these songs so fun to master. Discover this unique art form on Lumi’s Seefeld & Seiser Alm, Marcialonga & König Ludwig, and Seefeld & Engadin trips.
Farm Tours
Learn more about the slow food food movement in Italy on a tour of a local farm, where you’ll meet the stars of the show. Follow up your visit with a beer and cheese pairing to taste the difference that locally produced foods offer. Lumi’s Dolomitenlauf & Marcialonga and Marcialonga & König Ludwig trips both include this special opportunity.
Distillery Tour
Stop by a local distillery on Lumi’s Dolomitenlauf & Marcialonga trip to learn how they make dozens of varieties of schnapps and other liquors made from ingredients sourced from the surrounding region. Tastings are guaranteed!
Dog Sledding
Practice being a musher for an afternoon on your next visit to Sweden with Lumi. Team up with a local dog sledding team to learn the ropes before going on a ride around the Dalarna countryside. Take part in this activity on our Sweden Vasaloppet and Falun World Championships trips.
Alpine Skiing
Who says your cross-country ski vacation should only include skinny skis? There are excellent alpine skiing opportunities throughout Europe for those who want to let gravity do the work. Eisstockschiessen
Eisstockschiessen, or Bavarian Curling, is a winter sport played on ice across the Austrian and German Alps. Similar to traditional curling, players aim to get their ice stocks as close to the target as possible. Play this unique variant on the classic game on Lumi’s Marcialonga & König Ludwig trip.
