Italy’s Marcialonga ski marathon is introducing a brand-new event in 2027: a 32 km non-competitive event designed for skiers who aren't up for its 70 km signature event. The Marcialonga translates into English as The Long March and is affectionately referred to as the Much-too-longa. The new 32 km event, officially called the Just for Fun, qualifies finishers for a Worldloppet Silver-level stamp, and will run on the same day as the 45 km and 70 km races, allowing skiers to experience the excitement of participating in one of the most popular cross-country ski events in Europe at a much shorter distance.
The 32 km Just For Fun event is the perfect introduction to what makes the Marcialonga so special, at just under half the length.

The Worldloppet Silver stamp event will begin later in the morning in Moena after racers in the longer events have departed. Rather than starting with 15 km of gradual uphill like the 45 km and 70 km events, 32 km skiers will immediately begin their journey with a gentle descent towards Cavalese, skiing parallel to the scenic Avisio river, skipping the majority of the elevation gained on the full-length course.
After continuing through Predazzo where the 45 km Marcialonga Light racers finish, skiers in the 32 km will ski through the Lago di Tesero Ski Stadium, host of the 2026 Olympic cross country ski events, along with several other villages on the route. The 32 km event finishes with the infamous Cascata climb, a 3 km uphill from the river up to the village of Cavalese. At the top of the final climb, cheering spectators encourage skiers as they cross the finish in downtown Cavalese, experiencing the same finish line festivities as the 70 km skiers.
A Gold Stamp for the 45 km Marcialonga Light
The Marcialonga is magical no matter which event you participate in
Another big change coming in 2027: skiers who complete the 45 km Marcialonga Light event will now earn a Gold Worldloppet stamp. Previously only the 70 km event was eligible for the Gold stamp. This change recognizes that completing the 45 km course is a noteworthy achievement deserving of additional accolades. It also puts the 45 km Marcialonga Light in line with other Worldloppet events of similar length, including Austria’s 42 km Dolomitenlauf, Switzerland’s 42 km Engadin Ski Marathon, Germany’s 42 km König Ludwig Lauf, France’s 50 km Transju’ and Iceland’s 50 km Fossavatn, all of which earn skiers Gold stamps.

Ski the Marcialonga with Lumi
Lumi guests have the opportunity to ski any of the Marcialonga’s events on two unique trips, each with Worldloppet events on back-to-back weekends: Lumi’s Dolomitenlauf & Marcialonga trip visits Austria and Italy, with ample skiing in between at the Passo Lavazé trails above Cavalese. As one of our fastest filling trips, the 2027 Dolomitenlauf & Marcialonga trip sold out by April.
Three Countries, Two Worldloppets
The Leutasch trails outside of Seefeld are great for skiers of all abilities
Fortunately, Lumi’s popular Marcialonga & König Ludwig Lauf trip still has limited space available and offers guests the opportunity to ski in three countries: Italy, Austria and Germany. In Italy, spend the day after the Marcialonga exploring the Passo Lavazé trails, where Lumi guests have had sightings of Frida Karlsson and Johannes Klæbo while skiing beneath stunning Dolomite spires. Afterwards, enjoy three days of skiing and discover the local cuisine at trailside huts in Seefeld, Austria – one of Europe’s most popular nordic skiing destinations.
The “crowning event” of this trip is the König Ludwig Lauf ski marathon, named after the Bavarian king known for building Schloss Neuschwanstein – the castle that inspired Disney’s Cinderella Castle. The König Ludwig Lauf is the most popular ski race in Germany and offers skiers the option to ski the 21 km or 42 km events in either classic or skate techniques. The trip features comfortable accommodations, regionally-inspired cuisine and cultural activities like lift-serve sledding and an afternoon touring a slow-food farm, followed by a cheese and beer pairing.
