Chasing Snow in the Land of Fire & Ice

Lumi runners discovering Reykjavík by foot on Monday

Lumi Experiences guests on the Iceland-Fossavatn trip touched down in Iceland earlier this week for some urban exploration in Reykjavík before venturing north to the rugged Westfjords region. Runners on the trip laced up their shoes with trip leader Elisabeth to explore the capital city and see the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church by foot.

On Tuesday morning, the group set out for their journey north to a peaceful and remote part of the Westfjords region, stopping to see cascading waterfalls and hike to a volcanic crater along the way. An overnight stop at a family run lodge close to the coast was the perfect resting point in the journey north.

Traveling along the coast to the dramatic & remote Westfjords region

In a location that is virtually undisturbed by light pollution, overlooking the Snæfellsnes Glacier and Breidafjördur Bay, guests stayed up after the traditional Icelandic dinner to keep an eye out for the northern lights. A morning trail run to explore the remote and beautiful area was the perfect wake up for the legs before setting out for the final leg of the journey along the coast to chase snow in Ísafjörður.

I'm here with the group in Ísafjörður now and it's still snowing so conditions are looking good for the Fossavatn ski marathon this weekend! Stay tuned for a race report next week.
