Tuesday - Alpine Skiing on the Sella Ronda

Good morning!
Today is the perfect day for alpine skiing on one of the world’s most renown trails: the Sella Ronda.

If you prefer an easier alpine ski day, the Seiser Alm Ronda (a loop around the Seiser Alm plateau, rather than the Sell massif) may be an easier / shorter option to accomplish, which still offers spectacular views, even if the skiing is relatively easy. Once on the trails, follow signs for the Seiser Alm Ronda.

From 7:30 AM - Breakfast
Breakfast is available at your hotel from 7:30 am until 11:00 am.

The Sella Ronda
The route around the Dolomite’s Sella massif, the Sella Ronda, is a 42 km alpine ski loop connected by over a dozen lifts about 6 different ski areas. The skiing itself is recommended for intermediate level skiers or better. While the skiing itself is not overly challenging (it actually consists of many cat tracks), there is certainly a feeling of achievement when you finish. Skiers from Seiser Alm are recommended to start skiing by the first lift at 8:00 am to make it to the top of the last pass before the last lift closes at 4:00 PM. Can you stop and enjoy a bite to eat or take some photos? Certainly. But the clock is ticking.

** This loop is a lot of fun, but definitely a big undertaking. If you don’t finish the whole loop, a taxi back to your hotel on Seiser Alm can be 200 Euro or more.

Your hotel can share the detailed logistics with you, if you would like to pursue this option. Basically, you will want to purchase a Dolomiti SuperSki Day Pass (~ 60 Euro/person). Liability insurance is required for alpine skiing in Italy and can be purchased for around 2 Euro/person with your ski pass. We highly recommend including the insurance. This is valid at all the alpine ski areas in the Dolomites. Ideally, you purchase the pass (make sure it’s valid for the day you plan to ski) and rent your skis on Friday evening, so you can hit the slopes early. In Compatsch, pick up your rental equipment (K & K Sports at the lift station, starting from 40 Euro/person). Then take the ski bus to Saltria (~ 4 Euro/person). A connecting bus from Saltria takes you to Monte Pana. From here, take the lift and follow signs for the Sella Ronda.

We recommend skiing the orange, clockwise loop as it allows you to take the gondola to the top of Sass Pordoi for breathtaking views of the Dolomites. While you can’t ski back down from the top, the view is definitely worth the trip to the top … assuming you have time.

To return to Seiser Alm, take the ski bus from Monte Pana back to Saltria, then switch buses and take the connecting bus back to Compatsch.

7:00 pm - Dinner
Raise a glass at dinner to your accomplishment. Again, dinner seating goes from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Prost!
