Thursday – Rodeln in Leutasch

Sledding in Leutasch & Afternoon to Relax
Today’s recommended ski is relatively short and includes a fun activity as well: lift-serve sledding or Rodeln. After Rodeln, today’s recommended ski is one-way back to your hotel from the sledding hill, partly on classic only trails. We recommend bringing classic skis today or you can double-pole and herringbone on the classic trail with your skate skis. Spend the afternoon at your hotel and relax or stroll through Seefeld.

From 7:30 AM - Breakfast Available
Enjoy breakfast at your leisure from 7:30 - 10:30 am.

Bus to Leutasch Weidach Kreithkapelle

Bus 430 or Bus 433 take you from Seefeld to the chairlift and sledding hill in about 15 minutes. The bus is free to ride with your Seefeld ski trail pass.

We recommend catching Bus 430 at 9:21, 10:21, 11:21 or Bus 433 at 8:51, 9:51, 10:51 am from Seefeld i.T. Münchner Str./Kreisverkehr (see walking map below) to Leutasch Weidach Kreithkapelle. You’ll want to press the stop button before the stop or tell the driver where you want to stop ahead of time. For additional times, check the VVT website.

** Your trail pass is also valid as your bus pass, so please remember to bring that with you at all times.

1 km walk from Hotel Lärchenhof to the Seefeld i.T. Münchner Str./Kreisverkehr bus stop

From the Leutasch Weidach Kreithkapelle bus stop, walk across the street to the Kreith / Ski Lift Leutasch alpine ski hill.

We added a voucher to go sledding in your Welcome Package. Make sure to bring this to the lift office and let them know you are traveling with Lumi Experiences. They’ll give you your lift pass in the ticket office and the sleds will be waiting for you on the top of the lift.

Take the chairlift to the top. You can leave your skis with the ticket office while you’re sledding.

From the top, you can pick up your sleds. Signs indicate the way to the Rodelbahn or sledding track.

Rodeln is a very popular, exhilarating winter activity in Austria. It can also be very dangerous. Please use extreme caution. There are sections that cross over the alpine ski hill. Alpine skiers have right of way. If at any point you do not feel comfortable, you can walk your sled to the bottom. Personally, I have always gone sledding in my ski boots, as the sharp heels seem to provide better braking than shoes or winter boots. Shoe choice is up to you. Remember to bring a backpack to carry your shoes home if you go in shoes.

At the end of the sledding hill, it’s about a 10 minute walk back to the Katzenkopf Base Station:

When you finish sledding, you can leave the sled with the lift operator. You also get one free lift ride up with your cross country skis and valid cross country trail pass. Show the ticket office your Nordic pass and they’ll give you another lift pass. This will get you back to the top of the mountain. Here, you may want to stop and enjoy a drink or meal at the Katzenkopf Hut at the top of the chairlift.

Recommended ski: C4 + C5 + C2 + C1 (~ 8 km, highlighted in green)
The cross country ski trail starts the same way as the sledding hill, then turns to the right after a few hundred meters. Follow trail C4 / C5 which is a net downhill to Hut 3, the Wildmoos Alm. A reminder that the C4/C5 trail is classic-only (dotted line on the map). Because of that, we recommend classic skiing today, or you can also double pole (it’s mostly downhill) and herringbone on the climbs. From the Wildmoos Alm you should recognize where you are from earlier in the week. The fastest way to Seefeld is trail C2 to C1.

Optional Extension: C3 (~ 5 km, highlighted in blue)
If you wish to extend your ski further, the C3 Loop brings you down to Neu Leutasch. It’s just a couple of buildings, not really a village. The C3 trail is a long downhill, followed by a long uphill back to the A3 loop in the Wildmoos meadow. Although tempting, we would recommend skipping C3 and simply doing more exploring around the Stadium in Seefeld if you wish to get in a few more km today. From here, take the afternoon shuttle back to your hotel.

** If the trail is not open from the Leutash Lift Station back to Seefeld, you could either walk into Leutasch after sledding and do more skiing there or you could take the bus back to Seefeld and ski there or in Wildmoos.

Busses 430 and 433 from the Leutasch Waidach Kreithkapelle stop back to Seefeld departs at:
10:29, 10:59, 11:29 11:59 am, 12:29, 12:59, 1:29, 2:29, 2:59, 3:29, 3:59, 4:29 and 4:59 pm

Ski Recommendation: From Hochmoos Alm to Seefeld (~ 8 km in green)
Optional extension: C3 Neuleutasch loop (~ 5 km in blue
