König Ludwig Lauf Classic Race
This morning features the König Ludwig Lauf classic marathon.
6:30 AM - Breakfast begins at Hotel Böld
Our hotel opens its breakfast early for a special pre-race buffet.
7:45 AM - First Departure from Hotel Böld
50 km racers meet in the hotel lobby at 7:45 AM to take the shuttle to the race. 21 km racers meet in the hotel lobby at 8:45 AM to take the shuttle to the race. The race shuttles will run in intervals of about 10 - 15 minutes and take 10 minutes to reach the race start in Ettal.
The 50 km classic race starts at 9:00 AM. The 21 km classic race starts at 11:00 AM. The race will have clothing bags for you to drop off any warm-up clothes you do not wish to carry with you during the race.
Once the race starts, enjoy the 21 or 50km tour of the German countryside. The race starts by skiing past the iconic monastery in Ettal, then continues through fields and woods on a relatively flat course. There are several aid stations along the way.
At the race finish, you will be able to pick up your clothes and enjoy some of the post-race snacks the race provides — including free beer! The race is in Germany, after all. The award ceremony for the 21km race begins at 11:30 AM. The award ceremony for the 50km race beings at 1:00 PM.
For non-racers, you may wish to bus or ski to the start to cheer on your travel companions. Afterwards, ski back to the finish -- or further. Today is yours to enjoy as you wish -- your last day of skiing on the trip.
After the race, drop your skis off in the ski room, where your trip leaders and wax techs will do the dirty work of cleaning off your kick wax and applying travel wax to your skis before your trip home tomorrow.
Take a little time to pack up or explore town this afternoon. The hotel's wellness area may be the perfect place to relax after all the skiing you completed this trip.
6:30 PM - Dinner at Hotel Böld
Raise a glass to the past week with your travel companions before our farewell dinner tonight. Prost!
