Saturday - Sjusjøen plateau

Skiing in Sjusjøen
Enjoy a full day of skiing on the Sjusjøen plateau’s seemingly endless trails. This afternoon, we recommend a visit to the Norwegian Olympic Museum and Lillehammer history at the outdoor Maihaugen Museum.

From 7:30 AM - Breakfast opens at hotel
Good morning! Breakfast is available from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM at your hotel. After breakfast travel by bus up to the Sjusjøen plateau. We recommend having overboots or carrying shoes in a small backpack to get around when you are not skiing.

Todays ski recommendation

Today is your last day to enjoy skiing on the Sjusjøen plateau. This seemingly endless network of trails awaits you. Enjoy lunch at one of several restaurants along the trail or grab a bite once you’re back in Lillehammer.

Directions from Aksjemollen Hotel to Sjusjøen plateau

Walk from your hotel to “Lillehammer skysstasjon,” the shuttle bus station. It’s only 300m away, right across from the train station. Take a public bus (line 501) from Lillehammer to Sjusjøen. The journey takes about 36 mins. Get off at the “Sjusjøen langrennsarena”.

Buses depart from Lillehammer Bus Station at 9:20 AM, 11:20 AM and 1:20 PM.

The reception at your hotel has bus passes for you. These are valid for all of your travels to Sjusjoen and back to Lillehammer during your trip.

Trail Recomendation
Today’s ski starts in Sjusjøen again. Ski from Sjusjøen back toward Midtfjellkoia, but this time, take a route to the south. From the Sjusjoen Ski Stadium, ski downhill toward the Rustad Hotel and follow the trail along the frozen lake. This loop takes you up Mostfjellet, another scenic overlook, and around Snorvillen mountain. Head back north to Midtfjellkoia Hut. Once you reach Midtfjellkoia Hut, you should recognize the trail from the ski that you did on Friday. We recommend skiing on the Birken Trail back to Sjusjoen (in the opposite direction you skied on Friday). If you wish to extend your ski, you could continue on the loop you skied on Friday, or explore other trails as well.

After your ski head back down to Lillehammer. Take the same route down from the Birkebeiner

Lunch Recommendations
If you are ready for lunch already, the Låven Bar (Barn Bar) restaurant in Sjusjøen offers an apres-ski feel with burgers, beer and a warm restroom. It is one of the few restaurants available in Sjusjøen. You may also wish to wait and grab a bite once you make it down to Lillehammer for lunch.

Bus from Sjusjøen to Lillehammer

In case you decide to take the bus from Sjusjøen to Lillehammer to end your ski day where you started, take the bus “501” back from the “Sjusjøen langrennsarena” station. The journey takes about 35 mins and you can get off at “Lillehammer Skysstasjon”. From there you can walk back to your hotel the same way as you did in the morning.

Busses depart from the “Sjusjøen langrennsarena” Bus Station at 12:06 PM; 2:06 PM, 4:06 PM and 5:06 PM.

Afternoon
Discover some of Lillehammer’s history at the Norwegian Olympic Museum and the open-air museum Maihaugen. Maihaugen is one of the largest museums in Norway and offers cultural experiences telling the story of a rural society in the 20th century. The highlight of the outdoor museum are the traditional buildings rebuild on the grounds. The museums are open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Norwegian Olympic Museum highlights the history of sport and the greatest Norwegian sporting achievements in the Olympics.
