Travel requirements & safety

Preparing to Travel

Safety and health for all our guests on tour is very important to us. After several winters with varying levels of Covid-19 regulations, the World Health Organization declared an end to the Covid-19 global health emergency in May 2023. Since this time, there haven’t been restrictions for entering the countries where you’ll be traveling on your Lumi trip or for returning to the U.S. or Canada. We still highly recommend being up-to-date on your Covid-19 vaccinations and we will follow the latest travel industry standards and local regulations should the situation change between now and when you travel.

Scheduled to start sometime in 2025, Schengen countries (EU + Switzerland, Norway & Iceland) will begin to require travelers without visas to apply for ETIAS, a security screening prior to arrival. As of January 16, 2025 ETIAS has not launched and a specific start date has not yet been announced. When it launches, travelers will be able to complete an application online and, in most cases, be approved as soon as they submit it. The cost will be €7 for travelers between the ages of 18 - 70, and free for everyone else. You can learn more about ETIAS at Etias.com.

Ultimately, it is your responsibility as the traveler to know the entry requirements for each of the countries where you will be traveling (including transit countries), as well as the requirements for returning home. For example, some countries require that your passport be valid for at least another 6 months after your return. Your airline should be your primary source for the most up-to-date information.

Safety on Tour

If you are traveling on one of Lumi’s group trips, your trip leaders will review skiing safety at the start of the trip. When skiing, please follow the FIS Rules of the Trail at all times (pages 5 - 6 for cross country).

When walking, please use caution as many roads and paths are slippery. On roads, walk in the direction facing traffic and make room for cars to pass. Please use particular caution and control your speed when you are sledding. If you do not feel comfortable, you may walk down the trail, staying cautious of other sledders or skiers.

You will find Emergency Contact Information for your trip (local emergency numbers, etc) in your pre-trip information. We recommend having that information accessible during your trip, especially the local emergency phone number.

Wearing warm, dry clothes and layering while outdoors will help keep you healthy during our trip. We also recommend taking additional precautions, such as using hand sanitizer before and after going through buffet lines or shaking hands. N95 or FFP2 masks are not required on the trip, but you are welcome to wear one at any time. If you or your roommate are feeling cold, flu or Covid-related symptoms, we ask that you please limit your interactions with others. This may mean wearing a mask around your travel companions or staying away from others. The US Ski Team encourages its athletes to do the same and designates a day taking a break from skiing as a “Champion Day.”

If, at any point, you do not feel safe, healthy or prefer not to ski for whatever reason, please let Garrott Kuzzy (info@lumiexperiences.com) or your trip leaders (if you are on a group trip) know immediately.
