NEW TRIP ANNOUNCEMENT!! MINNEAPOLIS WORLD CUP 2024

Lumi founder Garrott Kuzzy out for a sunny ski on the Wirth Trails in Minneapolis

Four years after the 2020 Minneapolis World Cup was canceled just days before the Covid pandemic shut down international travel, we are thrilled to be heading back and hosting the 2024 Minneapolis World Cup Trip!

This past winter, Lumi guests cheered on racers at the Nordic World Championships in Planica, Slovenia and the Holmenkollen and Drammen City Sprint World Cup events in Norway. Guests even got to see several podium performances, plus got to meet some of the athletes afterwards and even tour the US Ski Team wax truck. Clair Wilson, Executive Director of the Loppet Foundation, who will be hosting the Minneapolis World Cup even joined Lumi in Norway this winter for inspiration on hosting world-class ski events.

The Minneapolis 2024 event will be the first time the US has hosted a cross country ski World Cup on US snow since the pre-Olympic World Cup in Soldier Hollow, Utah, way back in 2001. The tentative schedule is for a Skate Sprint event on Saturday, February 17 with morning qualifying heats, followed by knock-out heats in the afternoon. Sunday’s competitions are scheduled to feature 20 km mass-start skate events for both women and men, continuing with the gender parity in competition distances that started this past winter. As the US skiers tend to be stronger skate skiers, this schedule should bode well for some top US finishes. Plus, the sprint and longer distance formats should offer lots of opportunities to see and cheer on the racers as they make their way around the loops at Wirth Park.

Away from the races, the trip includes many of the features popular on Lumi trips. Relax at your 4-star hotel in downtown Minneapolis, just a 10 minute drive from the race course, where you can walk to many of Minneapolis’ landmarks and restaurants. Of course, transportation is included as well, so you don’t need to worry about renting a car or logistics. You can even leave your skis at home, as ski rental and trail passes for a midday course inspection with your expert trip leaders is included in the trip. Sample craft beers at a local brewery and dine at some of our favorite Minneapolis restaurants.

Reach out soon for a detailed trip itinerary. We are offering an early-booking discount of $300/person for all bookings before June 30 on the 2024 Minneapolis World Cup trip.

See you on the trail!
