Today’s ski is on one of the world’s most unique trails, from Cortina to Toblach. Known in Italian as the “Ferrovia” the trail translates into English as “the Railroad Track.” The 23km point-to-point trail goes through several former train tunnels and across high iron bridges to connect Cortina and Toblach. This stretch is one of the most popular sections in the Tour de Ski and is also part of the Cortina-Toblach ski marathon, taking place on February 2 & 3, 2019.
The shuttle bus departs a short walk from the hotel, and travels towards Cortina. You will get off the bus at the ski stadium in Fiames. From there it is a little tricky to find the track to Toblach, because you have to go south before heading north. Once you are on the track, it is a long 10+km climb to Cimabanche, where you cross from the Italian state of Veneto back into South Tyrol. From there, it is a gradual downhill to Toblach. There are several side trail options that parallel the main trail and reconnect periodically on the way back to Toblach.
One highlight of the day is the Lago di Landro Restaurant, at about 20km into the ski. We highly recommend stopping there for lunch.
The trail continues from Lago di Landro to Toblach. When you arrive at the ski stadium in Toblach, you may choose to continue your skiing or walk back to the hotel.
Settle in to your hotel in Toblach for the next three nights. The hotel features a wellness area, including a pool and spa.
